Stefania Corti

Dr. Stefania Corti is a Full Professor of Neurology at the University of Milan. She currently serves as the director of the Neuromuscular and Rare Diseases Unit and head of the Neural Stem Cell Laboratory at the Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan. For several years, Dr. Corti has been dedicated to developing new therapeutic strategies for neuromuscular and neurodegenerative diseases, focusing on motor neuron diseases such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), and Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Respiratory Distress Type 1 (SMARD1).         
After graduating with honors in Medicine and Surgery, Dr. Corti has been actively involved in stem cell research at the Department of Neurological Sciences, University of Milan, where she received her training as a researcher. She completed her residency in Neurology and obtained her PhD in Molecular Medicine. Since 2006, she has been working as a researcher and neurologist, progressing from Assistant Professor (2006-2015) to Associate Professor (2015-2023), and becoming a Full Professor of Neurology in 2023.        
Dr. Corti is a member of the Translational Medicine Doctoral School Committee, the Scientific Committee of the Dino Ferrari Center, the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of SMA Europe and Famiglie SMA Italia, and the Scientific Committee of the Fondazione IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico in Milan. Her scientific results in basic and clinical research have been published in internationally renowned journals.
