Dr. Sitao Zhang is a biochemist and neuroscientist whose research is dedicated to understanding the mechanisms of TDP-43 proteinopathy, particularly the aging and disease-related processes that initiate neurodegeneration in conditions such as ALS, FTD, Alzheimer's disease, and LATE. His work aims to address a fundamental question in the field: how TDP-43 pathology arises during aging and neurodegenerative disease, with the ultimate goal of developing novel therapeutic strategies. Currently, Dr. Zhang is a postdoctoral fellow in Professor Don Cleveland’s laboratory at the University of California, San Diego, where he focuses on elucidating the mechanisms of TDP-43-driven diseases. His broader research interests, in the future, include uncovering fundamental pathological mechanisms across multiple neurodegenerative diseases and leveraging these insights for future therapy development.
