Simon completed his BSc in Biochemistry at the University of Copenhagen and MScEng in Systems Biology at the Technical University of Denmark supervised by Søren Brunak. He was as a research scholar at Harvard Medical School studying influenza epidemiology in the lab of Ellis L. Reinherz; a research assistant at the University of Copenhagen discovering time-dependent combinations of cancer drugs; and a bioinformatician at the Icahn School of Medicine making numerous contributions to the understanding of the genetics of cardiovascular diseases. Subsequently, he obtained his PhD in Medical Science from the University of Cambridge on multiplex imaging of pancreatic cancer under supervision of Martin L Miller and John Marioni. In 2023, Simon joined Sarah Teichmann’s lab at the Sanger Institute and now Cambridge Stem Cell Institute as postdoctoral senior bioinformatician with an interest in cross-organ analysis for the Human Cell Atlas spanning the heart, thymus, and gut, while focussing on the diverse roles of fibroblasts and tissue-resident immune cells in maintaining healthy tissue structure.
