Shin-Han Shiu is a professor of Plant Biology and Computational Mathematics, Science & Engineering at Michigan State University, United States. His research focuses on the following four areas: (1) understanding the molecular basis of plant adaptation under stressful environment, (2) predicting phenotypes, broadly defined, in different environmental, spatial, and temporal contexts for a better understanding genetic mechanisms, (3) assessing the best approaches for integrating multi-modal/scale biological data using machine learning, and other artificial intelligence approaches, and (4) extracting knowledge, inferring cause-effect relationships, and assessing impact of science from literature data through natural language processing. He is also passionate about creating a learning environment for students at all levels for independent, critical thinking particularly in the interface between biological, computational, and quantitative education.
