Professor Ricardo Henriques is a group leader at ITQB NOVA, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, and an Honorary Professor at University College London. His research combines his background in particle physics with optical physics and cell biology to develop new imaging technologies. His laboratory focuses on creating and utilizing super-resolution microscopy and machine learning tools to investigate cellular and viral structures, with a particular interest in host-pathogen interactions and immunology.

He is an advocate of open science. His group has developed several major open-source software packages for super-resolution microscopy such as SRRF, for AI-driven bioimage analysis such as ZeroCostDL4Mic and preprint publishing itself such as Rxiv-Maker. These tools are designed to make cutting-edge research more accessible to everyone.
