Pauline Bardet

Pauline is a PhD researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), where she studies the role of immune cells in lung cancer under the supervision of Damya Laoui. Her educational background lies in bioengineering, which she was drawn to due to its combination of disciplines like computer modelling, biochemistry, and immunology. Though her master’s mainly focused on biochemistry, she challenged herself to pivot into tumour immunology for her master’s thesis, embracing the opportunity to broaden her expertise. She was awarded two different prizes for the innovative character and execution of her thesis. During her PhD, she developed a novel mouse model for lung cancer and introduced a new scRNA-Seq-based technique to differentiate immune cells in blood vessels from those within the tissue. Passionate about science communication and its role in society, Pauline also actively shares her research with patient organisations and schools, making complex scientific concepts accessible to a wider audience.
