Bishnoi
Dr. Mahendra Bishnoi graduated in Neuropharmacology from the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Panjab University. He pursued postdoctoral training in the field of neurosciences under the mentorship of Dr. Adrian Bruijnzeel at the McKnight Brain Institute, University of Florida, USA, and Dr. Louis S. Premkumar at the Department of Pharmacology, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, USA.
Upon returning to India, Dr. Bishnoi joined BRIC–National Agri-Food & Biomanufacturing Institute, where he currently leads research on metabolic disorders, with a specific focus on the role and modulation of TRP channels. His laboratory investigates the pharmacological mechanisms underlying TRP channel involvement in brown adipose tissue activation and thermogenesis, browning of white adipose tissue, and the maintenance of gut mucin layer homeostasis. These efforts are directed toward developing novel therapeutic strategies for obesity prevention and treatment.
Dr. Bishnoi has published over 100 research articles in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, amassing more than 7,000 citations. He is the recipient of several prestigious accolades, including the Alexander von Humboldt Experienced Research Fellowship, the Early and Mid-Career Research (EMCR) Fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy (INSA), and the Melvin Yahr Award from the World Federation of Neurosciences.
