Jan Zrimec specialises in applied bioinformatics and computational systems biology. He earned his PhD at the University of Ljubljana in 2013, and has since worked at 4 different research institutions across multiple postdocs, finally settling in the Omics group at the National Institute of Biology in 2021. He models gene expression processes using modern machine learning approaches and, through the development of mechanistic models of plants and, recently, also their interactions with beneficial microorganisms, studies how to improve crop resistance and yield.
