I have a background in neurobiology through my PhD in Neuroplasticity research (KU Leuven, Belgium in the group of Prof. L. Arckens). During my postdoc in inflammation research (VIB-VUB/IRC, Belgium in the groups of Prof. K. Movahedi and Prof. J. Van Ginderachter) I gained expertise in single-cell RNA Seq to study microglia in Alzheimers Disease and brain inflammation. As a next step, I joined VIB-CCB at the KULeuven as head of the Single Cell & Spatial Multiomics expertise center. Here I focussed on the wetlab parts of testing and optimization of sequencing- and imaging-based spatial transcriptomics technologies and the combination with other -omics technologies to understand cancer biology and the tumor microenvironment. Recently, I joined forces with VIB Spatial Catalyst and VIB Single Cell Core as a technology expert and joint project manager with the mission to expand spatial biology services at VIB.
