Hagay Enav is a Project Leader in the Department of Microbiome Science at the Max Planck Institute for Biology, Tübingen. He earned his PhD in 2015 from the Technion–Israel Institute of Technology, where he studied the adaptation of marine phages to their cyanobacterial hosts using a combination of long-term evolutionary experiments and computational analysis of metagenomic and environmental datasets. Following this, he joined the Technion’s Bioinformatics Knowledge Unit as an Omics Bioinformatics Scientist. In 2017, Dr. Enav joined the Max Planck Institute for Biology as a postdoctoral fellow under the supervision of Professor Ruth Ley. His research focused on the evolution of the infant gut microbiome and the development of computational approaches to study microbial strain evolution and dynamics. In 2024, he assumed his current position as a Project Leader, continuing to investigate the evolution of microbial communities within hosts and advancing computational tools to study microbiomes.
