University of Zurich, CH; SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, CH

Charlotte studied Mathematics at Free University Berlin, followed by working as a software developer. She obtained her PhD from the University of Cambridge, where she studied computational methods for RNA structure prediction in RNA viruses and developed CIAlign, a tool to clean, interpret and visualise multiple sequence alignments. She then went on as a researcher at Seoul National University, where she was part of the team developing Foldseek, a tool for fast and accurate protein structure search. Afterwards, she worked on genomics data as a R&D associate at a diagnostics company in Japan.

Charlotte joined the Hastingslab at University of Zurich in March 2024 as a postdoctoral researcher, where she is working on approaches to interpretable AI for biomedical discovery and clinical applications. She is conducting research on developing, applying and evaluating AI methods on various topics, such as social impact, knowledge intergration for molecular property prediction, metabolism, RNA and proteins. As a member of the SIB she is involved in the EcoImpact focus group to help promote
environmentally-friendly practices in bioinformatics.
