Bo
Zhang
Dr. Bo Zhang is a Principal Investigator and Ph.D. Supervisor at Shenzhen Bay Laboratory and Peking University Shenzhen Graduate School. He earned his Ph.D. in Neuroscience from Peking University in 2011 under the mentorship of Prof. Zhuan Zhou. During his postdoctoral training (2011–2018) with Prof. Thomas Südhof at Stanford University/HHMI, he elucidated key molecular mechanisms governing synaptic adhesion and neurotransmitter release. Since establishing his independent laboratory in Shenzhen in 2019, Dr. Zhang has focused on deciphering how synaptic cell-adhesion molecules orchestrate synapse assembly and how their dysfunction contributes to neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder.
Dr. Zhang has published as (co-)corresponding author in leading journals such as Science Advances, Molecular Psychiatry, Cell Reports, and The Journal of Neuroscience. His pioneering work integrates molecular, cellular, and behavioral approaches to bridge basic synaptic biology with brain disorders. His research excellence has been recognized through prestigious grants, including the NSFC Excellent Young Scientists Fund (the Chinese equivalent of the NSF CAREER Award), the NSFC International Collaboration Fund, and major support from the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation.
