How we reduce the environmental impact of the VIB events

The VIB Training & Conferences team organizes several scientific conferences and events in Flanders each year. These gatherings inherently involve transportation, energy consumption, and waste. To minimize their impact, we select partners who take targeted measures to reduce their environmental footprint.

1. Catering with a heart

We choose caterers who prioritize local products, the reuse of surpluses such as Foodsavers, fair trade and plastic-free products, and travel by bicycle or electric cars. This is why Coeur Catering is our regular partner for conferences. Coeur Catering won the Sustainability Award of the Gault&Millau Event Catering Awards 2024.

2. Virtual tickets

We provide virtual tickets for all VIB conferences to offer the attendees the option to attend from their workplace, significantly reducing the travel impact on the environment. For those attending in-person, we make sure our events are close to public transport hubs to encourage their use.

3. Eco-friendly accommodation and venues

We choose hotels with an eco-label such as Green Key, if available. This label guarantees a reduction of the ecological footprint in addition to comfort. Park Inn by Radisson in Leuven has this label and is a regular partner for example. We strive to choose venues that limit their impact on the environment.

4. No more conference bags and program books

We are not providing conference bags anymore and limit printed materials at the event. The program book (including sponsor advertisements) has been replaced by an event app. You can download the app through the App Store or the Google Play Store.
