Lukas
Neukomm
Lukas Neukomm earned his MSc in cellular energetics from ETH Zürich and his Ph.D. in programmed cell death from the University of Zürich. For his postdoctoral training, he moved to the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School, where he focused on axon degeneration in the fruit fly Drosophila. He was awarded a prestigious Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) Assistant Professor starting grant to establish his laboratory in the Department of Fundamental Neurosciences at the University of Lausanne and was later promoted to a tenure-track Assistant Professor. His lab aims to understand how NAD+ metabolism regulates neuron and neurite health, and how, when misregulated, it actively contributes to axon degeneration and neurodegeneration. Since degenerative mechanisms are evolutionarily conserved from flies to mammals, research in the Neukomm lab could reveal mechanisms underlying various neurological conditions.
