Jimmy Saw is an assistant professor at George Washington University and his research lab investigates poorly known and underrepresented microbes from extreme environments using a combination of wet lab and omics-based approaches. He graduated with PhD in microbiology from University of Hawaii at Manoa under the mentorship of Stuart Donachie and carried out postdoctoral research in the labs of Thijs Ettema at Uppsala University and Stephen Giovannoni at Oregon State University prior to taking up his current position. His scientific contributions include characterization of two species of Gloeobacter and discovery of Asgard archaea.
