Bernardo Almeida is a Senior AI Research Scientist at InstaDeep in Paris, where he works on developing large language foundational models for biological data. His research focuses on building deep learning methods that can read, model, and interpret the human genome, with particular emphasis on understanding genetic variation and its functional consequences. His broader interests lie at the intersection of artificial intelligence, genomics, and personalized medicine.

He received his PhD in 2023 from the University of Vienna, where his research centered on applying deep learning to uncover the information encoded in genomic sequences. Prior to his doctoral studies, he earned an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences and a master’s degree in Oncobiology from the University of Algarve in Portugal.
