Nora Barrett, MD is the Joshua A. Boyce, MD, Distinguished Chair in Allergy and Clinical Immunology (ACI) at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), the Associate Chief for Basic Research in ACI, and an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Barrett received her undergraduate degree from Wesleyan University, her MD from the University of Virginia, and completed clinical training in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Medicine, and Allergy Immunology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She conducted postdoctoral work with K. Frank Austen and joined the faculty at BWH in 2007.

Dr. Barrett’s research has focused on environmental sensing in the respiratory tract and the innate immune pathways that are critical to the initiation and persistence of respiratory disease. Her work has demonstrated roles for cysteinyl leukotrienes as endogenous danger signals patterning type 2 inflammation, for tuft cell hyperplasia in driving airway remodeling, and for epigenetically rewired airway basal stem cells in perpetuating epithelial dysfunction in airway disease. Dr. Barrett’s work has been recognized by numerous awards including election to the American Society of Clinical Investigation.
