Rob
Prior
A CMT patient and researcher, Dr. Prior completed his PhD at the lab of Prof. Ludo Van Den Bosch (Leuven, Belgium). His PhD thesis work helped identify the role of PMP22 in regulating lipid metabolism in Schwann cells and how PMP22 is essential for regulating plasma membrane function. Additionally, his work helped demonstrate the utility of histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors as a therapeutic strategy for CMT. During this time, he helped launch the company Augustine Therapeutics that was based on the work from the Van Den Bosch group. Dr. Prior continues to provide support to Augustine Therapeutics as they strive to translate novel HDAC6 inhibitors as a therapy for CMT patients. Currently, Dr. Prior is a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Bonn and the German Aerospace Center (DLR) (Bonn/Köln, Germany), where he is developing novel neuromuscular organoid models to study demyelinating neuropathies and microgravity-induced neuromuscular dysfunction.
