Eva
Gonzalez Suarez
Dra. Eva Gonzalez is PhD in Molecular Biology, is a Senior scientist and group leader of the Transformation and Metastasis laboratory, at the Spanish National Cancer Research Center in Madrid and the Bellvitge Institute for Biomedical Research in Barcelona.
Her academic merits have been recognized with an ERC-Consolidator grant, two Proof of Concept grants, Susan Komen career catalyst grant, and several awards. She is member of experts committee in several institutions as the Agencia Estatal de Investigacion, European network of breast development and cancer among others, and has supervised 12 PhD students and several postdocs. Currently she leads a team of 12 scientists.
Research in her laboratory aims to identify novel targets for breast cancer treatment and understand mechanisms of resistance to current drugs. Results from her team demonstrate the relevance of RANK signaling pathway in breast and support RANKL inhibitors for breast cancer prevention and treatment for its anti-tumor and immunomodulatory activity, leading to prevention and therapeutic trials with denosumab not only in breast but also in other epithelial tumors. Her lab was pioneer establishing breast cancer patient derived xenografts (PDX) for the identification of chemoresistance mechanisms in triple negative breast cancer. Her recent seminal work (Science, 2026) identifies RANK signaling in hypothalamic microglia as a critical modulator of gonadotropin-releasing hormone neuron activity, uncovering an unexpected immune–neuroendocrine axis controlling puberty and reproduction.
