Evelien Van Hamme leads the Spatial Catalyst team in VIB. She holds a degree in Life Science Engineering and obtained her PhD in 2009 from the University of Ghent, where she studied the viral entry of coronaviruses in monocytes. 

She has 12 years of experience in advanced bio imaging applications such as live cell imaging, functional imaging and CLEM workflows. In 2018, her interest in spatial technologies was raised when she started evaluating the Akoya CODEX technology. Since early 2023, she has, together with her team members, focused on making spatial technologies more accessible to researchers within VIB and beyond by offering wet lab services and data analysis support in spatial biology.
