Romina Nassini (RN) has more 15 years of experience on basic research in pharmacology of pain signaling and its modulation. She has a unique expertise in behavioral studies, which are of great relevance in in vivo investigation dedicated to chronic pain by using genetically manipulated animals. RN’s research interest focuses on the identification of new activators and inhibitors of the transient receptor potential (TRP) channels and on the molecular and translational aspects of such mechanism. RN has contributed to the identification of pathways by which inflammatory mediators signal to sensory nerves, to cause pain and neurogenic inflammation. In particular, RN has contributed to the identification of TRPA1 in Schwann cells, where it senses and amplifies the macrophage-evoked oxidative stress to signal chronic pain in models of peripheral neuropathies. More recently, RN has also contributed to novel acquisitions in the mechanism and pharmacology of cancer and migraine pain.
