Chiara Gandini is a synthetic biologist with extensive expertise in protein production. Throughout her career, she has explored diverse topics, including optimizing protein expression in E. coli, studying photosynthesis mechanisms in cyanobacteria and plants, and engineering diatoms for high-value biochemical outputs. While working at the Open Bioeconomy Lab, led by Jenny Molloy, she focused on developing tools for low-cost enzyme production in resource-constrained settings. Chiara spent many years frustrated by the inefficiencies in protein expression research. Four years ago, she therefore joined Nuclera, where she helped develop eProtein Discovery.  She now contributes to commercializing this innovative, end-to-end technology, which dramatically reduces the time and resources needed to produce soluble, active proteins of interest.
