Marchant
The Marchant lab is interested in drug discovery for neglected tropical disease, with a particular focus on schistosomiasis which is a blood fluke infection that infects over 200 million people worldwide. The Marchant lab recently discovered that several anthelmintic compounds, including the current clinical drug praziquantel, target TRPM channels in parasitic flatworms supporting their exploitation as targets for therapeutic discovery.
Dr. Marchant received his undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Cambridge, where he studied the spatiotemporal kinetics of cellular signaling processes. He was awarded an Wellcome Trust International Fellowship to advance subcellular imaging modalities working in the Department of Psychobiology at the University of California-Irvine. After this post-doctoral training he became a Faculty Member in the Department of Pharmacology at the University of Minnesota from over 15 years before joining the Medical College of Wisconsin as the Marcus Chair of Cell Biology, Neurobiology and Anatomy in 2017.
